🔬 PhotoGeNIC comes to an end – with promising results for the future of photonics!

After 48 months of research and innovation, the PhotoGeNIC project has successfully grown 940 nm Ge-VCSEL laser structures on germanium substrates, providing an innovative alternative to conventional GaAs-based approaches.
The project advanced scalable, silicon-compatible and more sustainable VCSEL manufacturing while strengthening Europe’s expertise across the photonics value chain.

A strong foundation has now been laid for future research in advanced sensing, LiDAR and integrated photonic systems.
